Creating art, thinking science—Dec. 6

Join us for a celebration of three years of exciting, sometimes surprising, collaborations between the Program in Art, Culture, and Technology (ACT) and MIT.nano, built through Tobias Putrih’s class “Creating Art, Thinking Science”.

DATE: Wednesday, December 6, 2023
TIME: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. ET
LOCATION: MIT.nano 12-0168 followed by a reception in the East Lobby

RSVP

The body of student work that the collaboration has generated is remarkable, leading to new education grants, a patent application, viral videos, art awards, and striking student artwork that adorns the galleries of MIT.nano. Technical participants in the class have deepened their appreciation of how to connect their work with public, while artists have broadened their creative palettes by embracing science expressions. All engaged have become better for it, and we are merely scratching the surface of what art-science-technology collaborations can bring.

The event will begin with a panel discussion at MIT.nano (12-0168) moderated by:
Hashim Sarkis, Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning

Introduced by:
Azra Akšamija, Director of the Art, Culture, and Technology Program and associate professor in the Department of Architecture
Vladimir Bulović, Director of MIT.nano and the Fariborz Maseeh Professor of Emerging Technologies

Featuring panelists:
Markus Buehler, McAfee Professor of Engineering, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
Craig Carter, Toyota Professor of Materials Processing, Department of Materials Science & Engineering
Caroline Jones, Professor, Department of Architecture
Tobias Putrih, Lecturer, MIT Program in Art, Culture, and Technology

Student art exhibition opening  “.zerozerozerozerozerozerozerozeroone" will follow the panel discussion, with a reception in the MIT.nano East Lobby.

Open to the MIT community; limited seats available. Please RSVP.
