Abstract

Laser micromachining combines the high ablation rate of laser with micron-level accuracy. Combining laser micromachining with other laboratory equipment creates new ways of preparing samples. Nevertheless, with laser micromachining, it’s not enough to simply push a button and walk away from the machine. Parameters and workflows need to be created to use the tool in an easy and reliable way. And the laser itself is not just a straight beam. The physics to guide the beam, the resulting effects on the sample, and different ways of handling the sample have to be considered. The laser micromachining tool combines the right laser source, the needed sample handling system, and software that brings it all together to produce the needed results.
