NEMO is the new lab management system for MIT.nano, replacing CORAL. Characterization and Immersion Lab have already switched to NEMO. The Fab transition will start this week and continue throughout the summer.
Apr 7-10: Start to install the NEMO kiosks in the fab and bring them online for testing with staff.
Apr 15: Post how-to guides online and in the fab near the Kiosks.
Apr 17: Switch the acid-benches over to NEMO (see rationale below).
May/June: Identify additional spots for Kiosks to have good coverage across the fab.
July 1: All other tools will switch to NEMO
Why? We’re switching the acid-benches over first because it allows people to get used to NEMO and because any technical challenges will not prevent usage (so it’s a lower risk of holding up someone’s work). If we run into unexpected major problems, we can always revert back to CORAL on short notice. 68% of wetbench users are already using NEMO as characterization users, so we have a smaller number of users that need to familiarize themselves with NEMO (7.5% of the total fab user base).
A downside is that acid-bench users (about 25% of all fab users) will be using NEMO & CORAL in parallel for May/June (this may add some overhead or confusion when scheduling different tools across both systems). The other 75% of users are not acid-bench users, so they will see no impact.
