J-WAFS Water and Food Seed Grant—Due Nov. 25

The Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT is now accepting letters of interest for the 2026 J-WAFS Water and Food Seed Grant. Seed grants are for early-stage MIT projects that have the potential to solve water and food supply challenges for human need. All proposals related to water and food security, safety, and sustainability are encouraged.

Fall course—6.2540 Nanotechnology: From Atoms to Systems

Led by EECS Associate Professor Farnaz Niroui, this undergraduate course introduces the fundamentals of applied quantum mechanics, materials science, and fabrication skills needed to design, engineer, and build emerging nanodevices with diverse applications in energy, memory, display, communications, and sensing. Focuses on the application and outlines the full progression from the fundamentals to the implemented device and functional technology. Closely integrates lectures with design-oriented laboratory modules.

MIT.nano job opening: Operations engineer

MIT.nano is hiring an operations engineer (OE) who will support state-of-the-art semiconductor equipment including the support systems that serve those tools. The OE will interact closely with users of the MIT.nano fabrication facility to ensure successful operation of the tools. Equipment responsibilities include lithography, wet processing stations, reactive ion etchers (RIE), chemical and physical vapor deposition systems (PVD and CVD), and thermal processing systems. Expertise will include lithography, etch and deposition techniques, proper chemical handling, safety and storage, and support system maintenance and service.

Call for abstracts: Annual Research Report Volume II

Since 2020, MIT.nano has produced the Annual Research Report in collaboration with MTL, but we recognize that the focus on microsystems does not always capture the astonishing range of innovation happening within the Fab, Characterization, and Immersion Lab. Therefore, we are announcing an expanded call for abstracts from all MIT.nano users. The newly added research categories will comprise Volume II of the Annual Report and include:

  • Life sciences
  • Biomechanics and physiology
  • In-situ microscopy / dynamic processes
  • Materials characterization and techniques
  • Prototype instrumentation development
  • Immersive simulation, design, and visualization

Blueprint Program by The Engine, Apply by Mar. 10

Blueprint by The Engine is a program for graduate students, postdocs, research scientists, and their teams, to explore the translational opportunities of their Tough Tech breakthroughs and startup projects. Participants gain the tools to conduct self-diligence, de-risk their ideas, and chart a clear path forward for their entrepreneurial journey. Through weekly sessions, mentorship, guides, and assignments, participants develop key entrepreneurial skills and progressively build a pitch deck for their Tough Tech innovations.

MIT.nano job opening: Fabrication facilities services developer

MIT.nano is hiring a fabrication facilities services developer! This person will lead the effort in establishing and maintaining a central point of entry for users to gain access into several academic fabrication facilities in the Northeast, known as the Northeast Microelectronics Coalition (NEMC) Hub. A masters degree in electrical, mechanical, material science, chemical engineering, physics or related discipline and a minimum of five years of experience in semiconductor process facilities or equivalent is required.
