MIT.nano’s technical staff have started to ramp-up tools this week. You will see most tools go out of shutdown and online in CORAL over the next two weeks.
The next user meeting will be on Wednesday, June 17, at 2pm. to share more details, including the non-fab spaces. For now, following are some notes for the user community on where we are, and where we are headed:
Equipment and other resources:
We’re setting up gowning areas and other spaces to accommodate new protocols, throughout this week. In addition, we can now try to bring in vendors for tool repairs. Because we are at 50% staff density during ramp-up, not all tools will go online right away.
Reopening: Monday, June 15
We anticipate that as we ramp up, the first users will be able to enter on Monday, June 15. We will still be ramping-up tools during next week, so not every tool will be ready, but we hope the overlap will help a subset of users to get started as soon as possible.
Returning users must attend a check-in
Because of changes in gowning, social distancing, and other procedures, before users first enter the lab, they must attend a short, 15-30 minute “first-time-back check-in” (via Zoom) to highlight any changes, answer questions, and clear up confusion. It’s also an opportunity for us to collect feedback and understand any concerns of returning users.

Make sure your EHS trainings are up-to-date
To get back into the lab, your mandatory regular EHS trainings for the fab must be up-to-date.
This week is a good time to check your training in MUMMS and MIT Atlas. Complete any missing courses now to avoid frustrating delays.
New-user orientations to resume later this summer
The current ramp-up phase focuses on existing fab users, to help them resume their research projects and to ramp-up our tools. New-user orientations (e.g. for incoming graduate students) will resume later in the summer, after we stabilize operations and can accommodate these sessions.
